Bruins for Business Health (BBH) was founded in 2019 when a group of UCLA undergraduate students realized the absence of business healthcare-oriented clubs on campus. With a mission to introduce free resources to fellow Bruins, BBH has since prepared several cohorts for a successful career in this emerging industry. Avantika is a senior from Scottsdale, Arizona majoring in Human, Biology, and Society (HBS) and minoring in Global Studies. She is on a pre-med track but also interested in exploring business health and biotechnology. She will be serving as Vice President for the 2024-2025 academic year. Avantika is looking forward to recruitment and building a diverse and supportive network of individuals with varied interests within business health!

Sophia is a fourth-year student majoring in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. She plans to pursue a graduate degree in Biology after completing her undergraduate studies, aiming to gain industry-specific knowledge by starting her career in biotech or life science companies. Her ultimate goal is to work in venture capital, where she hopes to fund and support the growth of biotech and life science startups. Sophia has a strong interest in preventive medicine, believing that a focus on health screenings, vaccines, and lifestyle interventions can reduce the overall burden on the healthcare system, improve population health, and lower costs in the long term.

Kyra is a third year majoring in Human Biology and Society. She is interested in becoming a physician, but also aims to explore the intersectionality of business and healthcare through biotechnology as well as healthcare administration and consulting. She aspires to make healthcare more accessible and affordable through combining innovative technologies in both sectors. As Director of Research, her goal is to create opportunities for students to engage with research and develop their academic interests through hands-on experience and collaboration. Through this program, we aim to support students in exploring their prospective fields by deepening their understanding of research processes, methodologies, and real-world applications.

Cynthia Li
Cynthia is a fourth-year Human Biology and Society BS major with a minor in Digital Humanities. She is passionate about healthcare and life sciences, with interests in consulting, product management, and marketing. She hopes to help high-quality products developed by leading research and development teams reach broader audiences through strong sales growth and effective communication. Cynthia also believes in showing the value of business health, encouraging collaboration, and building connections with like-minded peers.
As Director of Marketing, Cynthia manages the club website and improves its search engine optimization (SEO) so that individuals interested in business health can easily find relevant information. She creates Canva flyers for a wide range of events, manages the club’s social media accounts, including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, and facilitates the club’s exclusive newsletters.

Manish Yalamanchili
Manish is a third year majoring in Cognitive Science with a minor in Gerontology. He is interested in becoming a physician and wants to establish a successful dermatology and/or psychiatry practice using cutting-edge AI technologies, ultimately becoming a leader in the evolution of healthcare delivery and patient engagement. As one of the Professional Events Directors, he will network with industry professionals to secure valuable collaborations and plan and execute impactful events. Manish is excited to see a diverse range of events preparing members for the future of business and healthcare and is also looking forward to increased engagement from events and more personable networking opportunities. He's eager to contribute to the planning and execution of professional events that inspire and connect the community.

Jessica Wang
Jessica is a third-year Biochemistry major with a minor in Accounting. She is interested in how drug discovery translates from laboratory research to the public through certification. She plans to pursue graduate studies in Pharmacology to further explore the science behind biomedical innovation. Jessica serves as BBH’s Professional Events Director. In this role, she organizes networking nights, career panels, and professional partnerships to support members’ career development. She is excited to see BBH expand with more hands on development of more business-health projects.

Mahek Patel
Mahek is a third year Computational Biology major. She is interested in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields, with career aspirations of working at a company that develops vaccines and medications cost effectively and provides them at an affordable price. Mahek is passionate about advancing healthcare accessibility and driving innovation in life sciences. As Finance Director of BBH, she manages club funding and allocates resources across different sectors to support BBH’s initiatives. This year, she looks forward to fostering a collaborative environment within the club and helping BBH gain more opportunities by expanding funding. Through her role, she aims to ensure that members can pursue meaningful projects and engage in experiences that highlight the value of business in healthcare.

Sofia Belen Pena
Sofia is a third year Chemical Engineering major. She is interested in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors, with a focus on innovation that supports roles in drug development and product management. She is also exploring opportunities in finance and healthcare administration. Sofia aspires to understand chemical reactions at a molecular level and apply that knowledge to large-scale production. Her goal is to optimize manufacturing processes to make them safe, accessible, and sustainable. As Recruitment Director, she works to connect passionate, curious, and innovative individuals with the opportunities BBH offers. She collaborates with other teams to run a successful recruitment cycle that aligns with the club’s mission and values. Beyond recruitment, she is dedicated to keeping members engaged, informed, and actively involved. This year, Sofia looks forward to contributing to the growth of BBH, welcoming new members who share an interest in the intersection of business and healthcare, and participating in events that foster meaningful professional connections.

Nikhil is a fourth year student majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish. Nikhil's interests include pursuing a pre-healthcare track with passions for sports medicine and oncology. At BBH, Nikhil works as the club's Internal Events Directors in order to plan out social events and help strengthen relationships between members and foster an inclusive community. He hopes to ensure everyone has a great time in BBH and has formed a community of people that members can lean on in times of need!

Ira is a third-year bioengineering major passionate about using wearables and machine learning to advance preventative health. As Director of Mentorship, she will pair students with professional mentors to help them grow their networks and explore career opportunities. She is also excited to build family groups for mentorship and bonding, introduce interactive news updates, and organize mentorship speed-matching events to strengthen connections within the club.

Smiraa is a second year Biochemistry major on the pre-law track. She aspires to become an attorney in the fields of pharmaceutical, intellectual property, or health law, with a particular interest in patent law and its impact on patient accessibility. She is passionate about the intersection of science, law, and healthcare, and how legal frameworks can shape access to innovation. As a Research Intern for BBH, she contributes to BBH Review, a research journalism project that equips members with critical skills to pursue research opportunities and supports the publication of articles on key issues in business and healthcare. This year, Smiraa looks forward to deepening her understanding of business healthcare while helping others explore and grow their own interests in the field.

Aoyu (Cherry) is a third year majoring in Human, Biology, and Society with a minor in Statistics and Data Science. She's passionate about the intersection of biology, health and business, especially pharmaceuticals, healthcare administration, life sciences consulting and investment. Cherry is interested in topics such as pharmaceutical operations, biotech valuation, or working in the lab to develop new drugs to improve health wellbeing of patients! As one of the Professional Events Interns, she believes the transformative power of meaningful experience. Cherry envisions events as avenues to acquire advanced knowledge while genuinely inhibiting passion and creativity in each club member!

Johnny is a fourth year chemical engineering student. He is involved with research in the UCLA Annabi Lab and has completed a research and development internship. He is on the pre med track but is also interested in hospital administration and life science consulting. As the finance intern, he will help secure funding that will expand BBH’s opportunities.

Vibha Doddipalle is a second-year Bioengineering major with a minor in Global Health. She’s interested in combining her passions for biotechnology and business to create innovative solutions in healthcare. She hopes to develop tools that improve patient care and expand access to healthcare on a global scale. Outside of academics, she enjoys exploring new cafes, going on hikes, and connecting with people.

Cindy is a second-year Business Economics major with a minor in Mathematics. She is passionate about the intersection of finance and healthcare, with a growing interest in healthcare investment banking. She hopes to one day advise life sciences companies and healthcare providers on strategic transactions that drive innovation and improve patient outcomes. As a Mentorship Intern, Cindy is dedicated to building meaningful connections between members and mentors, ensuring that mentorship at BBH is both impactful and accessible. She hopes to contribute to a strong sense of community through thoughtful planning, transparent communication, and tailored guidance for each mentee. Cindy is excited to support professional growth for BBH members and looks forward to helping shape a mentorship program that empowers students in both their academic and career journeys.
